Primary Purpose:
Coordinate routing of pupil transportation for regular and special needs programs district-wide to ensure safe, efficient, timely, and economical transportation services.Qualifications:
Education/Certification:Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
High School Diploma or GED
Must be 18 years of age
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to use software to develop route schedules, spreadsheets, and databases and do word processing
Ability to read and understand documents including policies and procedures manuals
Ability to receive and give written and verbal instructions
Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Two years experience as certified school bus driver
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Routes and Schedules
- Along with Special Education and Regular Education Route Coordinators, assigns drivers and buses to all routes.
- Assign substitute drivers, monitors, and buses to am routes.
- Contact substitute and field trip drivers to verify assignments.
- Maintain an accurate daily log on driver attendance and route assignments for payroll purposes.
- Promptly answers incoming phone calls and is the primary receiver for radio communications with buses.
- Monitors route bus and field trip departures and arrivals to ensure that all routes are covered and departing as scheduled.
- Maintain bus schedule board daily. PM board should be set before end of the am shift and am board should be set before the end of the previous day's pm shift.
- Field trip billing, summer school billing and shuttle billing
Other
- Serve as substitute bus driver as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.

- Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff, and other professionals at all times.
- Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages, and route to the appropriate staff.
- Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of “going the extra mile” for others.
- Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.
- Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.
