Maine School Administrative District No. 27 serves 840 students in grades PreK-12 from St. Francis, St. John Plantation, Wallagrass, New Canada and Fort Kent, ME, location of America's First Mile.  The district has three (3) schools, the Fort Kent Elementary School (PreK-6)Valley Rivers Middle School (7-8), and Fort Kent Community High School (9-12).

Job Goal: To provide an educational program designed to allow each and every student to achieve the State of Maine Learning Results, M.S.A.D. No. 27 Learning Results and other requirements described in the M.S.A.D. No. 27 Local Assessment System and to provide evidence of that achievement to the student, parents or guardians and school officials.

Summary: The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the Upper Elementary curriculum, Proficiency Based Learning, practice implementing Marzano's The Art and Science of Teaching, strong classroom management skills, and high standards of student success in both Academics and the Habits of Work. The successful candidate must be willing to compare learner's progress with their goals and current level of performance, make feedback immediate and informative, explicit belief about learners' potential and capacity to succeed, and ready to collaborate with others in order to implement models of Personalized Learning for Students.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provides curriculum, instruction, assessment and a classroom climate in line with the District Vision Statement.
  2. Delivers the District curriculum to each and every student in a manner aligned with their needs.
  3. Instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated in a variety of ways to meed the needs of individual learners.
  4. Administers a variety of assessments in line with stated learning objectives and the District Assessment System.
  5. Communicates student achievement effectively to a variety of audiences.
  6. Maintains a classroom climate supportive of the learning of each and every student.
  7. Works coorperatively with administration and other staff in a variety of school improvement efforts.
  8. Implements all relevant school policies, procedures and regulations adopted by the M.S.A.D. No. 27 Board of Directors.
  9. Participates in professional development activities and incorporates new learning into practice.
  10. Generates and maintains accurate educational records.
  11. Maintains confidentiality of student records as described in the Family Rights and Privacy Act at all times.
  12. Generates and maintains all student and management records required by law, District policy and administrative regulation.
  13. Attends staff meetings, student planning and progress meetings and is available to parents/guardians at times outside of the school day.
  14. Performs duties assigned by the principal.
  15. Accepts responsibility for educational materials provided by the District.
  16. Plans for and supervises educational support staff in line with job descriptions.
  17. Maintains high standards of professionalism.
  18. Accepts change gracefully and adapts to modifications and additions to the job that administration may find necessary and appropriate.

  1. Ability to move around the classroom to assist students and monitor progress.
  2. Ability to move and/or lift a variety of educational materials.
  3. May require ability to restrain a student or to seek assistance to restrain a student.
Environmental Conditions:
  1. Ability to function in an atmosphere where there is noise and movement.
  2. Monitors students in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations.

Qualifications:
  • State of Maine Certification
  • Teacher Endorsement 020: Elementary (K-6)
  • Demonstrated ability to provide an atmosphere and instruction to support learning.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree
  • Maine CHRC
