POSITION: PART-TIME SPECIAL EDUCATION SPEECH AIDE ~ MAESER ELEMENTARY
(Up to 29.5 hours per week, part-time position, no benefits)
JOB SUMMARY: The Speech Paraprofessional will work with both the general education and special education population with language handicaps, articulation deficits, and dysfluencies and voice disorders under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist.
District Expectations:
The Speech Paraprofessional will perform the following job duties under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist:
• Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement;
• Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments;
• Provides screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals and at specified levels;
• Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community;
• Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps;
• Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities;
• Provides information and support to parents and families when appropriate;
• Collect data and maintain daily therapy logs for each student to be approved monthly;
• Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
• High School Diploma;
• Utah Elementary Teacher Certificate preferred but not mandatory;
• Must hold Associate’s degree or have 48 semester hours of college credit OR must have passed or be willing to pass the ParaPro test immediately upon hire;
• Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelors Degree;
• Possible certification provided through Uintah School District.
