POSITION:
Livonia Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified Project Lead the Way elementary classroom teacher who will be able to develop and sustain academic-focused instruction for his/her students in the elementary grades. The teacher will identify and implement best practices in instruction and student achievement. The teacher will create an engaging, welcoming, and safe classroom environment which stimulates learning, growth, and development. The teacher will motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide the primary foundation for future education. The teacher will establish positive and respectful relationships with students, parents, and staff.
DISTRICT OVERVIEW:
Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,800 staff members, serving approximately 13,200 students pre-K – post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $176 million, with a state funding of $9,600 per pupil.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following is a list of minimum qualifications for this position, any one of which may be waived by the Administration in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the area of Elementary Education
- Valid elementary Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Project Lead the Way Certification or enrollment in PLTW training.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Exhibits a commitment to the District’s Shared Vision and Collective Commitments
- Creates a welcoming and positive classroom climate and culture
- Teaches computer science, engineering, and biomedical science concepts using the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) K-4 Launch curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
- Empowers students to adopt an inquisitive mindset through engaging activities, projects, and problems that connect with the world around them.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares report cards and other necessary documentation to report student growth and achievement
- Integrates the school improvement goals into the classroom
- Maintains student classroom records using current district technology and expectations
- Creates ongoing dialogue with PLTW Launch colleagues within the District to ensure consistent implementation of the curriculum across all elementary grade levels.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss curriculum, assessments, and student progress
- Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students address social, emotional and academic issues
- Creates an effective and welcoming environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, instructional materials, bulletin boards, and websites
- Maintains professional competence through completion of the PLTW Launch Classroom Teacher professional development, in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
- Utilizes age and content appropriate aids; maintains required inventory records
- Provides supervision and oversight to students throughout assigned work day
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required
- Participates in school improvement/AdvancEd accreditation initiatives at the district level and school level, committees and collaborative learning teams
- Follows all District guidelines, protocols and procedures
- Executes other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by building administrator
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The work year, salary, and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Association. This posting will remain open until qualified candidate is selected.
