Mechanic - Vehicle Maintenance (Multiple Vacancies) (2025-2026)

Working Calendar: 260 Days/ 8 Hours

*All mechanics receive a $6.50 / hour stipend per JCPS School Board (Please note this is only approved for the 2024-25 school year and may be reapproved by the school board at a later date.)

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Responds to the mechanical needs for vehicular preventive maintenance and breakdown repair. Must be willing to participate in a continuing educational development program in upgrading technical skills.  Makes extensive and skillful repairs to all mechanical devices/parts of vehicles. 
 

Salary Schedule: 1B, Grade 10
Estimated starting hourly range: $28.46 - $34.69 (includes $6.50 stipend for 24-25 SY)

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Working knowledge of gas and diesel buses, trucks and cars
Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Master Automotive Service Excellence certification. Good for the life of employment, no need to retest
Effective communication skills
 
 
MECHANIC B
Salary Schedule 1B, Grade 8
Estimated starting hourly range: $26.83 - $32.61 (includes $6.50 stipend for 24-25 SY)

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Working knowledge of gas and diesel buses, trucks and cars
Two (2) years as a mechanic's helper
Must have valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Effective communication skills
 
MECHANIC
Salary Schedule: 1B, Grade 7
Estimated starting hourly range: $26.04 - $31.62 (includes $6.50 stipend for 24-25 SY)

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Working knowledge of gas and diesel buses, truck, and cars
Technical vocational training or commensurate work experience
Ability to secure CDL when eligible (21 years of age)
Effective communication skills
