Description

  1. TITLE:  Assistant Debate Coach – High School
     
  2. QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate preferred.
    2. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public.
    3. Current CPR certification.
    4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
       
  3. REPORTS TO:  Building Administrator
     
  4. JOB GOALS:
    To support the delivery of School District 91's curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.

    To assist the Head Coach in helping each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.
     
  5. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Provides individual and group instruction in preparation for tournament competition.
    2. Assists with establishing performance requirements, enforcing academic requirements, and verifying each student’s eligibility to participate in speech/debate activities.
    3. Assists the head speech/debate coach with evaluation of student performances as needed.
    4. Maintains the integrity and reputation of Idaho Falls School District 91 in the debate community by teaching and modeling integrity, commitment, and diligence.
    5. Assists with the administration and operation of invitational tournaments.
    6. Travels as needed to supervise and judge at tournaments.
    7. Ensures the safety of students by adhering to both team and general school rules and regulations while at tournaments and team meets.
    8. Assists with organizing and implementing debate trips in accordance with district policy and regulations as well as student interest and ability.
    9. Complies with federal and state laws, State Department of Education rules, and Board of Education Policies.
    10. Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
    11. Attends and helps with weekly team nights.
    12. Maintains high standards of ethical conduct and confidentiality.
    13. Performs all other duties as assigned.
       
  6. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 
    Employed annually under the High School Assistant Coach stipend as per the Stipend Schedule. The beginning stipend amount is $2,543.
     
  7. EVALUATION:
    Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator as part of the coaches evaluation process.
