Overview:
The Coordinator of Student Services (Climate and Culture) will lead, coordinate, and support district-wide efforts to create safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for all students. This position is responsible for organizing and overseeing the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for behavior, and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) frameworks. The Coordinator will serve as a key communicator with the District Leadership Team, collaborate across departments, and develop professional development to build staff capacity. This role ensures that the district’s climate and culture initiatives are cohesive, data-informed, and aligned with the district’s vision for equity, student well-being, and academic success. This is an ODJ Grant Funded position.
Essential Functions:
Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive, district-wide Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) framework that integrates school climate improvement, student mental health, behavioral supports, and whole-child development.
Coordinate the implementation of SEL, PBIS, and MTSS across district-wide initiatives, ensuring alignment with district priorities, educational equity, and school improvement plans.
Collaborate with district and building leadership teams to embed SEL into school culture, daily instruction, and disciplinary systems through restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and positive relationship-building.
Coordinate and support behavioral interventions and SEL supports, including Tier 1 SEL instruction and Tier 2 and Tier 3 services for students with identified needs.
Partner with school-based Climate Specialists to support school climate and behavior initiatives aligned with SEL and PBIS.
Deliver high-quality professional learning and coaching to administrators, educators, and support staff on SEL, PBIS, MTSS, trauma-informed practices, de-escalation, and mental health awareness.
Assist with the design and delivery of professional development and family learning opportunities to build knowledge and engagement in SEL, PBIS, and MTSS practices.
Work with school leadership teams to embed SEL, PBIS, and MTSS into master schedules, classroom practices, and daily routines.
Model and coach the delivery of SEL lessons using various models such as 1:1 coaching, peer coaching, and co-teaching; support teachers with lesson planning and implementation.
Evaluate the effectiveness of SEL, PBIS, and MTSS implementation using school climate and discipline data, student voice, and SEL screeners; use data to inform continuous improvement and decision-making.
Assess SEL curriculum and programs for quality, cultural responsiveness, and alignment with district goals; recommend improvements as needed.
Review existing systems, practices, and structures through an equity lens to evaluate their impact on student achievement, behavior outcomes, and access to SEL support.
Assist in establishing and maintaining community partnerships to enhance SEL, PBIS, and MTSS services and extend supports beyond the school environment.
Regularly review and analyze school climate data, discipline trends, and feedback to support school-level SEL and PBIS action planning.
Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and deliver coaching, professional learning, and student support using a variety of effective, culturally responsive instructional methods.
Identify staff and program development needs related to SEL, PBIS, and MTSS, and contribute to the design of responsive training or supports.
Supervises and evaluates assigned staff as directed.
Promotes professionalism. Implements state mandated and locally developed personnel appraisal standards. Assists with the planning and delivery of effective professional development programs that improve teaching outcomes and student learning (e.g., methods, skills, commitment, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in education, school counseling, social work, psychology, or related field.
Valid licensure or certification in a relevant discipline (e.g., teaching, school counseling, school psychology, or administrative license).
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience working in K–12 education, student services, or mental health support roles.
Deep understanding of Social and Emotional Learning (e.g., CASEL framework), school climate practices, mental health supports, PBIS, and MTSS.
Demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and evaluating programs that promote positive school climate and student well-being.
Experience in training and coaching staff on SEL, behavior, or mental health topics.
Strong data analysis skills and the ability to use data to drive programming decisions and equity-focused improvements.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and the ability to lead collaborative initiatives across departments.
