**RETIRED Boone County Teachers
If you retired from Boone County Schools as a teacher through the Kentucky Teacher Retirement System (KTRS), you may not apply for the substitute position until three (3) months after your retirement date. Additionally, you may not contact the school district or your previous administrator regarding substitute teaching until the three month period since your retirement date has elapsed, otherwise, you will jeopardize your retirement benefits.Once the three month period has elapsed, please complete the online employment application for the substitute teacher position and a member of the Human Resources Department will contact you regarding the next steps in the application process.
Job Description:
TITLE: Substitute Teacher
Possess a minimum of thirty (30) college credit hours from an accredited college or university OR
Possess a high-school diploma or a high-school diploma equivalency (e.g. G.E.D. certificate) and be 21 years-of-age.
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To enable each child to pursue his education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Has demonstrated an ability to work and communicate effectively with students and staff
2. Report to the principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building
3. Review with the principal or designated person, all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day
4. Maintain, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he/she is assigned
5. Follow the lesson outlined and described in the lesson plan or plan book as prepared by the absent teacher
6. Assume responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and, if appropriate, during lunch and recess periods
7. Report, via the district’s electronic absence management system, the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day
8. Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates
9. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
10. Works directly with teachers and assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies and play periods
11. Checks and records students’ attendance
12. Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student
13. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of the regular teacher
14. Monitors and reports school safety conditions to the building principal
15. Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
