SECTION:  Central Office Administration
TITLE:  ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
Qualifications:

  1. Hold or be eligible for the required certification by the State of New Jersey (New Jersey School Administrator Certificate)
  2. Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field
  3. Minimum of 5 years successful administrative experience as principal, director, or central office administrator
  4. Demonstrated leadership ability in curriculum, instruction, staff development, and school operations
  5. Knowledge of New Jersey education laws, regulations, and policies
  6. Strong leadership and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff, parents, community groups, and agencies
  7. Experience with personnel management, budgeting, and strategic planning
  8. Required criminal history background check physical examination/drug screening pursuant to Board Policy 3160.
  9. Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
 
Reports to: Superintendent of Schools
Primary Function: The Assistant Superintendent of Schools assists the superintendent in planning, organizing, developing, and maintaining the overall operation of the school district. This position provides leadership and guidance in the areas of district administration, instructional programs, operations, human resources, compliance, and community engagement.
 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Supervision:

?      Serve as the Chief School Administrator in the absence of the Superintendent, ensuring continuity of leadership, decision-making, and district operations


?      Assist the Superintendent in providing overall leadership and strategic direction for the district, focusing on continuous improvement, high standards, and long-term vision


?      Oversee and support principals and district-level administrators to ensure effective implementation of district-wide goals and initiatives


?      Provide leadership in fostering a culture of academic excellence, high performance, and professional growth among staff and students


?      Manage and streamline the district’s operations, including human resources, facilities, technology, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations


?      Coordinate and monitor special projects, grants, and district-wide initiatives to align with strategic objectives


?      Lead recruitment, selection, and evaluation of administrative and instructional staff to build a strong, high-performing leadership team


?      Cultivate positive relationships with parents, the community, and external organizations to strengthen the district’s support network


?      Assist in the preparation and execution of the district’s strategic plan, budget development, and long-range planning, ensuring alignment with district priorities
 
?      Oversees and supports the ongoing evaluation of instructional staff and curriculum initiatives

 

Data and Instructional Support:

?      Provide ongoing professional development and guidance to the leadership team on how to leverage performance data to improve instruction and inform professional growth


?      Facilitate the creation of school action plans with clear, measurable instructional goals aligned with district priorities


?      Ensure coordination across departments, ensuring all areas of the district work cohesively to meet the strategic vision and goals


?      Foster a culture of collaboration by working closely with staff, school leaders, and the community to support student success and district innovation


?      Lead the district in responding to emerging educational trends and challenges, ensuring the district remains adaptive and innovative in its approach to student achievement
 
?      Additional Responsibilities:
?      Attends board meetings and prepares reports for the Board of Education.
?      Assists the Superintendent in public presentations and other district-related activities
?      Responds to emergencies and requests from the Superintendent as needed.
?      Performs other duties within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned
?      Performs other tasks that may be assigned by the Superintendent
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Full Time – 12 Months
 
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of certified staff.
