  • Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate: Program Specialist in ESL
  • Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Elementary K-4; Middle Level 4-8; and/or Secondary 7-12
  • Knowledge of WIDA Framework and Best Practices for Instructional Delivery and Language Development

Goal:
As an English Language Development Teacher, your goal is to support students and create a positive classroom environment that facilitates learning and growth in compliance with the core values of the School District of the City of York. You will motivate students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for a solid educational foundation. Additionally, you will establish positive relationships with parents and staff members.
Essential Functions:
  • Access student information systems to update rosters, upload test results, and verify student information and accommodations for standardized testing.
  • Administer tests and language assessments to evaluate students’ language ability.
  • Assess Students’ progress, expectations, goals, etc., to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborate with school personnel.
  • Instruct English Learners to improve their success in academics and social language.
  • Model for teachers the appropriate English communication and instruction to develop students’ ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Monitor the academic progress of recently reclassified students to ensure success and use the gathered data to collaborate with the classroom teacher as needed.
  • Prepare teaching materials and related reports to implement lesson plans and document student progress. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of English language learning acquisition and best practices in English language development.

  • Complies with SDCY’s procedures and protocols for identifying, screening, and placing potential English learners.
  • Provide English language acquisition, development, and support to English Learners students in SDCY-designated Language Instruction Educational Program (LIEP): co-teaching, push-in, or pull-out environments.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the student's needs, interests, and abilities by employing various instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet group and individual learning needs.
  • Using the SDCY’s ELD curriculum, teach English language communication skills, including listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to design personalized instruction based on student data using the WIDA 2020 standards framework, SDCY ELD program materials, and sound pedagogical strategies.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure the achievement of English Learners across content areas.
  • Administers formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and ensure student achievement and language acquisition growth as directed by the Supervisor of ELD.
  • Communicate with parents through various modes to discuss students’ language acquisition notifications.
  • Possess the characteristics necessary for advocating for limited English-speaking students and families within the school system.
  • Administer standardized tests following the SDCY’s assessment map and the state-required Access for ELLs 2.0.
  • Complete documentation required by the SDCY Language Instruction Educational Program(LIEP), PA Dept of Education(PDE), and United States Department of Education (USDE) for English learners.
  • Participate in and provide building-level, district-wide, or ELD-specific professional development.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by the Principal/Supervisor of ELD.
