SENIOR SCHOOL NURSE
 
 
Location: Phoenix Campus    
Employee Status: Permanent   
Hours Per Week: 40
Work Calendar: 206 days
Pay Rate: $40.00/hr
CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
CLASS SUMMARY:
 The Senior School Nurse provides healthcare for school-aged students on our Phoenix Campus supporting under 200 students.  They provide oversight of the daily health issues that occur with students who attend the school as well as the work and assistance of other Student Health Center personnel which may include health assistants, CNA, HA, MA, LPN and RNs.  They oversee the daily operations of the health center which include assessing the status of a student’s immunization documentation, requesting, receiving, and processing doctor's orders, creating health plans for individuals with specific health needs, managing a range of health issues, from minor to emergency level, that occur on a daily basis, maintaining accurate and up to date student health records as well as student lists of dietary restrictions and activity restrictions, conducting health intakes with any new students, inventorying, stocking, maintaining, and ordering necessary medical supplies and equipment, dispensing students’ prescribed medications, preparing and documenting medications for daily transportation and field trips, completing Medicaid billing and documentation when appropriate, and provide hearing and vision screenings when appropriate.

The Senior School Nurse is responsible for evaluating student health records, participating as a member of the record review, MET, and IEP team for students with sensory impairments, completing any necessary IEP and MET paperwork as it relates to student health. 

The Senior School Nurse is responsible for providing training and orientation to all Student Health Center Staff as well as overseeing any staff training specific to daily student cares. 

The Senior School Nurse serves as the point of contact for the Student Health Center and the school community. The Senior School Nurse initiates, responds to, and maintains regular communication with students, staff, families, and outside medical providers. The Senior School Nurse provides medical care and guidance within the scope of practice for an RN when appropriate. The Senior School Nurse communicates updates to policy and procedure based on the guidance of the legal and medical community as it pertains to school nursing. 

In addition to working with students, Senior School Nurse has other responsibilities, which may include making home visits, attending conferences, completing medical paperwork and documentation, and attending various school meetings. The duties of a Senior School Nurse include nurse working in all school settings, if located with residential facilities, dormitory students and staff.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and/or combination of work related education, knowledge, and skills.
  • 2 years Nursing experience
  • 1 year Supervising experience
  • School nursing experience preferred.
  • MAT and CPR training/certification
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to pass FBI and State background check
  • Defensive Driver Training Program to be completed by all agency personnel that drive on State business
  • Arizona Board of Nursing license

  • Agency or program rules, regulations, and operating procedures
  • School health policies and programs
  • Modification or removing of health-related barriers to learning
