Summary:
The Special Education Teacher – MICI/IRR is a split schedule supporting, planning, and delivering specially designed instruction for students with mild cognitive impairment and more intensive behavior needs. For the caseload of students in the MICI program, instruction will focus on academic skills, life skills, pre-vocational learning experiences, and behavioral skills. The MICI/IRR Teacher will serve as the case manager for students with MICI programming, while working flexibly and collaboratively with special education colleagues to create appropriate learning opportunities for each student. They will also have 1-2 sections of a Guided Studies period that will support students receiving IRR programming that focuses on building social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver specialized instruction in academic core content areas and functional life skills.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual students.
- Collaborate with general education teachers regarding inclusion opportunities for students.
- Collaborate with the IRR case manager and school social worker regarding student needs – IEP goals and behavior plans.
- Document and share student progress on goals and objectives, accommodations, and service time.
- Collaborate with all service providers, general education teachers, and other staff in the development of annual Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and re-evaluations.
- Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of behavior support plans.
- Lead and support classroom paraprofessionals.
- Support use of augmented communication devices, as appropriate.
- Comply with timelines, laws, and regulations as it relates to district, state, and federal policies and procedures.
- Maintain consistent and timely contact with parents.
- Log and maintain monthly Medicaid reports.
- Other duties as assigned by building administration or Assistant Superintendent of Special Education.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education with endorsement in Cognitive Impairment (SA).
- Knowledgeable in Essential Elements with Michigan Range of Complexity.
- Knowledge of positive behavior supports and implementation of behavior plans.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and community members.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (oral and written).
- Ability to take initiative yet work as a team-player.
- Ability to work with flexibility and adaptability.
- Certification in CPI and CPR/First Aid.
