GENERAL SUMMARY
The K-12 STEM/Science Instructional Coach works under the direction of the Executive Director of Academics to support and enhance instructional practices in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math across the district. The Coach provides direct instructional support, leads professional development, and supports teachers and school leaders in implementing rigorous, standards-based STEM instruction. This position ensures alignment of instructional practices with district goals and state standards, and plays a critical role in fostering a data-driven culture of continuous academic improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)
· Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the district’s STEM and science curriculum across K-12.
· Serve as an instructional coach to teachers by modeling lessons, co-teaching, and providing constructive feedback and support.
· Facilitate district-wide STEM/science professional development and learning communities.
· Collaborate with school leaders and instructional staff to analyze data and adjust instruction to improve student outcomes.
· Promote interdisciplinary STEM instruction, project-based learning, and inquiry-driven strategies aligned to the state standards.
· Support teachers with instructional planning, pacing, and alignment of assessments with learning targets.
· Maintain awareness of current trends and best practices in STEM education and instructional technology.
· Collaborate with the Accountability and Assessment team to help teachers use assessment data to drive instruction.
· Coordinate and support STEM-related extracurricular opportunities, such as science fairs, robotics teams, and STEM family nights.
· Monitor and support the integration of STEM instructional resources and technology tools.
· Participate in school improvement planning efforts and academic reviews to support school and district STEM initiatives.
· Ensure equitable access to STEM instruction across all student groups, including underrepresented populations.
· Maintain communication with stakeholders to promote STEM awareness, opportunities, and success stories.
· Assist in the development of grant proposals and community partnerships to expand STEM learning opportunities.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, science or engineering; Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university preferred; a valid South Carolina Teacher’s certificate. At least five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
Knowledge:
· Strong understanding of K-12 science and STEM curriculum standards, instructional strategies, and assessments.
· Knowledge of instructional coaching practices, adult learning theory, and teacher support models.
· Familiarity with instructional frameworks, data analysis, and school improvement planning.
· Knowledge of current trends in STEM education, including hands-on and inquiry-based learning.
Skills/Effort:
Advanced management, organizational, human relations, communications and interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with district staff; ability to plan, develop, administer, and monitor all aspects of the Science/STEM program; is able to assemble and analyze information and make written reports; knows how to develop and maintain positive relationships; ability to maintain records and files of a confidential nature; is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision; has skills to communicate with stakeholders; is able to make effective presentations and discuss problems and possible solutions as required.
Working Conditions:
Office/school environment with little exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to general office activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to ten pounds. Routine local travel required; occasional overnight travel required.
