Pay Grade: Substitute Pay Rates
Primary Purpose:
Provide a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children which encourages their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program of educational activities as set forth by Center management and guidelines. Ensure the safety and supervision of children at all times. Meet the physical and emotional demands of the position. Have a working knowledge of Minimum Standards.Qualifications:
Education/Certification:Must be at least 18 years of age
High School Diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must meet State and Center requirements
Experience:
Recommended experience in related field or at least one year of experience in an early childhood program.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Interacts frequently, affectionately, and respectfully with children. Follow Center guidelines of appropriate interactions with children.
- Encourages and models appropriate behavior.
- Practice positive discipline and guidance techniques as outlined by Center management.
- Plans and implements developmentally appropriate program of educational activities.
- Respects diversity, independence, and creativity.
- Documents progress of children.
- Provides written and verbal communication with families on a daily basis.
- Keeps the classroom neat and orderly. Clean and sanitize furniture, equipment, toys, and linens
- Models appropriate usage, respect and accountability for equipment, toys, and supplies.
- Sterilize bottles and prepare formulas. Prepare snacks, ensuring safe handling of food for children.
- Acknowledges and responds to all parents, visitors, and faculty in a respectful, professional, courteous manner. Establishes and maintains a relationship of cooperation, professionalism and respect with co-workers.
- Maintains confidentiality about issues concerning other faculty members, children and families, and center management and operations.
- Demonstrates openness to new ideas and policies.
- Is committed to professional growth and development by attending training seminars and meetings. Achieves or exceeds mandated training hours as outlined by state minimum standards.
- Is aware and knows number of children to next responsible teacher when leaving the group and shares relevant information.
- Assists children with all physical functions such as feeding, diapering, toileting, walking, and standing.
- Be aware of special needs or problems of individual students. Observe and document developmental progress of children.
- Maintains ratios and completes attendance records and appropriate paperwork.
- Follows and adheres to all health and safety rules per center and state.
- Represents the Center is a professional when in the community at training events, etc.
- Exercises sound judgment and responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all children.
- Exercises discretion and independent decision-making when necessary in guiding a teacher.
- Informs Director of significant injuries, unusual incidents, or when filing a neglect or abuse complaint.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency protocols.
- Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Pediatric and first aid certifications.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job performance and meet state childcare licensing standards.
- Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: standard child care and instructional equipment such as toys, playgrounds, multiple rider strollers, etc. School Ipads, use of personal phones and laptops.
Posture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing, lifting, balancing, reaching or moving materials.
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Moderate heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds); may lift and move classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; frequent exposure to bodily fluids; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
Mental Demands: Mental alertness and physical energy to perform job functions; work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress and self control in the presence of children.; follows all state and district guidelines
