Position Title: Key Club Co-Sponsor (Category 8)
 Building: Highland Park High School

SUMMARY:
 
Key Club is a sponsor and student-led service organization that promotes leadership and volunteer opportunities. Fundraising for local, national and global causes as well as community service centered in Highland Park, Highwood, and Fort Sheridan, is the focus of the club.  Students meet weekly with sponsors to plan and organize activities. Key Club is the high school extension of the adult community organization of our local Kiwanis Club of Highland Park and Highwood.  
 
Kiwanis sponsor expectations:
 
1. Weekly meetings - Our Key Club advisors meet with students once a week and advise/work. Key Club sponsors and students invite the local Highland Park/Highwood Kiwanis president to attend 1 meeting a month. There should be 1 meeting a year attended at the local Kiwanis of Highland Park by students and sponsors. 
 
2. Attendance - Attendance is taken at each meeting. An official attendance policy should be determined and enacted by club sponsors. 
 
3. Engaging Club Membership - Each student Key Club member should be willing to do 50 hours combined community service annually, p 48. Kiwanis & Faculty Key Club Advisor guide 
 
4. Community Service Project(s) that serve the community where every Key Club member participates. pp 21,22, pp.1-4 community assessment. Key Club Know Your Community.
 
5. Reestablishing an active working relationship between the Highland Park/Highwood Kiwanis Club and the HPHS Key Club, p. 15.

  • Introduction of the leadership of Kiwanis at the first meeting of the year
  • Scholarship Opportunities from Kiwanis to be presented to the Key Club of HP. 
  • Sponsors attend one Kiwanis group meeting a year
 
6. Advisor Project Leads/Opportunities 
  • Develop new ideas for a service project for Highland Park, Highwood, and Fort Sheridan
  • Open and maintain a Key Club Instagram Account with a district email address. 
  • Incoming 8th grader community building project as a bridge to Key Club at HPHS. This is a wonderful opportunity for recruitment.
