GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Lead Custodian directs the custodial staff members in the daily operations in order to maintain the facilities in a clean and orderly condition in accordance to the district's standards. This position will be responsible for personnel coaching, monitoring of supply and equipment usage, maintaining a safe work environment and performing special project work. Lead custodian will communicate daily with building administrators to ensure building needs are addressed properly.

The Facilities Department will operate in a professional and customer service minded manner in accordance with district standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Extensive knowledge in custodial operations, equipment use, and district expectations.

  2. Expertise in commercial cleaning, such as: buffing, stripping/waxing floors, stoning, gym floor applications, and all other facets of maintaining a high level of cleanliness.

  3. Knowledge in supply management.

  4. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

  5. Strong sense of urgency; self-directed.

  6. Must be dedicated, determined, and dependable.

  7. Must be knowledgeable in some general maintenance such as: light bulb replacement, filter replacement, plumbing, etc.

 

Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and smell. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee will  frequently be required to sit, stand and/or walk, and may be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust to focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with developing duty lists for employees and inspect work to ensure proper completion.

  2. Responsible for physical building security to ensure that all windows and doors are secure on a daily basis.

  3. Salting and shoveling as required during inclement weather.

  4. Responsible for exterior building perimeter debris removal.

  5. Recommend work improvements for the custodial staff.

  6. Superives set ups and tear down for meetings and events.

  7. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and or equivalent.

  2. Minimum of five years commercial custodial experience.

  3. Two years of supervisory experience preferred.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have reliable transportation.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Majority of work will be indoors, but will require outdoor work in all types of weather conditions.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a lead position that will monitor and coordinate custodial staff and communicate directly with facilities supervisors and management to ensure custodial duties are maintained to the district standard.

 

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

 

CURRICULA RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

 

METHOD OF EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
