NOTICE OF POSITION 

POSITION: 
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School Building Leader (SBL) certificate by the time of appointment. Candidates must have a minimum of six (6) years of experience in K-12 education (at least 3 years as an instructional coach, and at least 3 years of experience as a state education department certified educator). Candidates should have a strong background in instructional leadership, change management, and a successful background of academic growth and success. Strong candidates are knowledgeable of current research in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Candidates with prior leadership experience in an urban school district with a large racially and economically diverse populations are preferred and encouraged to apply. 

DUTIES:
The Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD) is committed to providing students and parents with pathways to opportunity that will lead to achievement and success. Through student-centered effective and transformational leadership, school and community engagement, and an unrelenting pursuit to achieve greater school outcomes for children, the Poughkeepsie City Schools is focused on developing and growing greater access, equity, opportunity, and quality across PCSD. Under the direction of the Building Principal, the Assistant Principal of Poughkeepsie Middle School (PMS) will provide instructional leadership to PMS staff that guarantees that PMS students transition successfully into Poughkeepsie High School. 
 

Reporting to the Building Principal, the Assistant Principal will be an instructional leader who will support the professional development of teachers and staff.  Working closely with their principal, this  leader will focus on the academic growth and success of students, providing students with voice and leadership opportunities. The duties of the assistant principal of PMS include, but are not exclusively limited to the following: 

Student Performance and Supports 

  • Set and enforce rigorous standards for student achievement that are in line with the goals of Poughkeepsie City School District. 
  • Establish attainable stretch goals for instructional learning objectives that are aligned with student achievement. 
  • Ensure the academic program meets or exceeds yearly student outcome goals as defined by Poughkeepsie City School District and measured by the NYSED ESSA accountability requirements. 
  • Ensure that all students are provided with the support that guarantees school attendance, course completion, and an engaging 6th-8th grade middle school experience. 
  • Ensure curriculum and academic support needs are addressed in the master schedule

Instructional Leadership 

  • Serve as the primary instructional leader of Poughkeepsie Middle School. 
  • ?Coordinate and facilitate meetings with faculty and staff that focus on student achievement, student support, department chair meetings, parent and community engagement, data use, enrichment, high standards, culturally proficient teaching, including but not limited to faculty meeting, COP (communities of practice), grade level, department, and MTSS meetings.
  • Work with teachers and department chairs to regularly analyze data to access and improve student achievement results.
  • In collaboration with the Division of Instruction and the Office of Students with Exceptionalities, ensure use of effective, research-based teaching methodologies and practices through formal and informal observation, modeling, coaching, and collaborative planning.
  • Implement data-driven instructional practices and facilitate data-informed instructional decision-making
  • Stay current on successful research-based instructional methodologies and effective pedagogical practices.
  • Ensure high-quality instructional practice, resources, and experience for all students.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism among teachers and staff. 
  • Ensure the learning environment and classroom instruction maximizes student learning.
  • Review and support the board-approved curriculum and resources for all student coursework to ensure fidelity of implementation.
  • Monitor progress of all students, with an emphasis on English Language Learners, Students with Exceptionalities, and children displaying extraordinary needs. 
  • Evaluate and supervise teachers for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth, and achieving overall objectives of the school’s curriculum.

Organizational Leadership 

  • Participate and maintain active involvement in the school improvement planning process with all stakeholders.
  • ?Contribute to a culture of excellence, teamwork and collaboration amongst the staff, teachers, students and families. 
  • Support the principal as they lead teachers and other school community stakeholders in developing a healthy school culture aligned with the vision, mission, and values of the school and the region.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal funding sources. 
  • Assist in the establishment of a community school model that will provide students and families with comprehensive academic, social, emotional, and wellness support.

Personnel 

  • Support the principal in recruiting, selecting, and hiring school staff, including teachers and school-based support staff
  • ?Continually monitor progress on academic and instructional measures of school and staff performance.
  • Administer PCSD approved personnel policies and procedures. 
  • When required, provide for adequate supervision, training, and evaluation of all staff and volunteers.
  • Communicate the vision that supports the school’s goals and values. 

Community Relations 

  • Serve as a liaison between teachers, parents, and the community. 
  • ?Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position, while serving as a contributing member of the Poughkeepsie City School District and Community.
  • As directed by the principal, engage as an active participant in Parent Associations and all other community assemblies to create and maintain good rapport with community members. 
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
July 1, 2025

SALARY:
In accordance with the Administrators’ Contract, $108,174-$127,423
