7th Grade Social Studies Teacher

This posting is for the 2025-2026- School Year 

Primary Purpose:

Provide students in grades 6–8 with a high-quality social studies education that builds content knowledge, critical thinking, civic responsibility, and an understanding of historical, geographical, political, and economic systems aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and Sheldon ISD curriculum.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university

• Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate 4–8 Social Studies or 4–8 Generalist certification (or eligibility)

• Strong knowledge of middle school social studies content (history, geography, government, economics)

• ESL certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred

Responsibilities:

• Plan, deliver, and assess engaging social studies instruction aligned to district curriculum and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

• Promote critical thinking, discussion, analysis, and understanding of primary and secondary sources.

• Integrate literacy strategies, technology tools, and project-based learning into social studies lessons.

• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Learners (ELs) and students receiving special education services.

• Foster an understanding of democratic principles, citizenship, and global perspectives.

• Monitor student learning using a variety of assessments and adjust instruction based on data.

• Prepare students for success on district benchmarks, STAAR assessments, and future academic endeavors.

• Maintain a structured, respectful, and culturally responsive classroom environment.

• Communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff to support academic and behavioral success.

• Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), campus professional development, and team planning sessions.

• Uphold all Sheldon ISD, campus, state, and federal policies and expectations.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting of instructional materials, and assisting students with learning activities as needed.

  Works 187 Day Calendar
  *Position cannot be performed remotely
  
  Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through 05/09/2025. After this date, applicants can continue to submit applications in case the district was unable to find a suitable candidate.
