Description
Primary Purpose:
Support the academic and behavioral success of students assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS) by assisting with instructional activities, supervising student behavior, and maintaining a highly structured learning environment. Ensure students remain on track with coursework while reinforcing campus expectations.
Qualifications:
- Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED required; or
- Minimum of 60 hours from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to assist students with academic assignments across multiple subject areas.
- Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and staff.
- Flexibility, initiative, and a commitment to student success.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Physical stamina to stand, stoop, bend, pull, push, and assist students as needed.
- Experience:
- Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.
- Assist students assigned to ISS in completing assignments provided by their classroom teachers.
- Monitor and record student academic progress and behavior throughout the day.
- Assist classroom teachers with instructional strategies, including developing materials or manipulative objects to support student learning.
- Collaborate with general education teachers and campus staff to ensure instructional consistency and student accountability.
- Maintain a structured, quiet, and respectful environment that is conducive to learning and behavior improvement.
- Communicate any concerns regarding student behavior or academic progress to campus administration.
- Monitor and supervise students during all assigned periods, including restroom breaks and meals within ISS.
- Maintain accurate documentation for student attendance and discipline while assigned to ISS.
- Maintain confidentiality of all student records and campus information.
- Perform light lifting or assist students physically as necessary, and move instructional equipment or materials when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the campus administration.
- Mental Demands: Ability to maintain emotional control under stress; manage multiple student needs; prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Physical Demands: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing; some lifting of students or classroom materials.
- Work Environment: Fast-paced high school environment; structured classroom setting; frequent interaction with students exhibiting a range of academic and behavioral needs.

Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through 05/09/2025.
