Early Entry CTE Teacher

Basic Function: Develop in each student an awareness and understanding coupled with the basic skills/knowledge applicable to a specific occupation in the business or public sector; and to instill in each student essential work ethics such as safe working habits, quality of work, continuation of education, reliability, competence, loyalty and dependability; other duties as assigned by Building Principal.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Teaches career and technical skills; knowledge and employability skill to provide students with the competence to be successful in a CTE program.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, common learner competencies, and other general elements of the course of study as specified in state law, administrative regulations, and procedures of the school district.
  • Participates in planning and developing goals, objectives, curricula, and methods as requested.
  • Develops lesson plans and organizes class times so that preparations, instruction, shop work, and cleanup activities can be accomplished in the allotted time.
  • Demonstrates occupational materials, equipment, tools, quality measurements and processes, using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aides.
  • Guides students in selection and performance of appropriate activities.
  • Provides individual and group instruction appropriate to the needs of the student(s) and the requirements of the activities being performed.
  • Instructs students in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Assists in the control, storage, maintenance, and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of classroom student conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment.
  • Communicates with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual students' progress as the need arises.
  • Identifies pupils' needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve attitude and learning problems.
  • Provides encouragement for continuation of formal education and assistance to students in employment awareness skills.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom program related activities during the assigned working day.
  • Attends faculty meetings and works with Career & Technical Advisory Committee on the development and implementation of specific career and technical programs.
  • May share in the sponsorship of student activities and club activities.
  • Evaluates accurate and complete student records.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, equipment, tools, materials, supplies, and parts as required, working under established budget and procedures.
  • Does other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

Salary: Starting at $41,970

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma Required; Preference given to Associate's/Bachelor's/Master's Degree.
  • NYS CTE Certification preferred (may consider if eligible to meet Transitional A certification requirements).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of industry experience with preference in Carpentry/Construction, Welding and Metal Fabrication, Technology Education, or equivalent.
  • Preference given for teaching experience - working with adolescent youth of all ability levels; organized, effective planner; proficiency in computer usage and industry related technology.
  • Ability to deliver creative and engaging multi-tiered lessons to at-risk students (ages 14-16) is essential.
