Educational Diagnostician (Pool for all positions)

Summary:
Operating under the direction of the Special Education Director, this role involves conducting psychometric, behavioral or academic evaluations to evaluate students' intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning and determining their eligibility for special education services. The position requires collaboration with teachers, administrators, and parents to interpret evaluation data, develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and provide consultation on students’ educational needs. Additional responsibilities include managing the special education evaluation process, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, maintaining detailed records, and participating in professional development to enhance skills.

  1. Evaluation
    • Receive student referrals and implement the special educational evaluation process.
    • Score, interpret, and organize evaluation data from various sources, including cumulative folders, classroom teachers, parents, and outside resources.
    • Conduct observations and personal interviews as needed.
    • Participate in committee meetings to interpret evaluation data and guide IEP development and placement decisions.

  1. Consultation
    • Consult with teachers, administrators, parents, and other relevant staff to address the educational needs of students and interpret evaluation data.
    • Provide staff development training to enhance understanding of students' educational needs.
    • Meet with parents to discuss background information, test results, and strategies for student support.
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Support the selection and use of evaluation materials and equipment necessary for the administration of special education evaluation..
Weekly 30%
  1. Program Management
    • Participate in the special education evaluation  process for assigned campuses, serving as a case manager when needed.
    • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and local policies regarding evaluation, placement, and planning for special education services.
    • Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee meetings to assist with appropriate placement and IEP development.
    • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and documents, including case records, test results, and statistical data.

Education and Experience: 
Acceptable demonstration of acceptable education and/or experience will be at the sole discretion of the District.
  • Preferred Master’s degree in psychometrics, special education with diagnostician certification, or equivalent degree
  • Required Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eligible for the appropriate Colorado license
  • At least 3 years of experience in the field of expertise with a preference of at least 5 years.

Licenses, Registrations or Certifications:
  • Criminal background check required for hire
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license or valid Colorado identification required
  • Current valid Colorado Teacher/Special Service Provider License with Special Education endorsement OR approved alternative CDE licensure in Teacher/SSP Endorsement area

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Psychometric/Behavioral Diagnostician: Demonstrate an ability to administer, score, interpret, and report the results of a variety of formal and informal psychometric, executive functioning, adaptive functioning, and behavioral functioning measures, tools, and methods
  • Academic Achievement Diagnostician: Demonstrate an ability to administer, score, interpret, and report the results of a variety of formal and informal academic achievement measures, tools, and methods.  Ability to be adaptable and flexible with collaborative critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to provide support in a professional and approachable manner
  • Commitment to handling sensitive and confidential information with the highest ethical standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff and various stakeholders
  • Ability to lead, communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to follow applicable federal, state, local laws and Board of Education policies, in addition to building and department procedures
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator

Working Conditions:
190 days/year

Selection Procedure:
Position is posted to internal transfers for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days or open until filled.  

Salary & Benefits:
Teacher Base Pay Salary Schedule Range:
$50,015 - $104,432 based on one (1) FTE at one hundred eighty eight (188) days.

Hiring Range for External Candidates:
$50,015 - $85,857 
*Teachers are initially placed according to experience. Teachers new to the District may be granted up to 15 years of experience, provided the experience occurred within the last 20 years in accordance with the MVEA Agreement.
