CTE Teacher - Construction Trades - Electrical: Queen Anne's County High School
JOB SUMMARY:
Queen Anne’s County Public Schools is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Electrical Instructor to join our high school Career and Technical Education faculty. The instructor will teach students the fundamentals of electrical systems and prepare them for success in both post-secondary education and workforce opportunities. This includes hands-on training in residential and commercial electrical systems aligned with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the electrical trade, hold or be eligible for appropriate licensure, and demonstrate a strong commitment to student learning and career readiness.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of or eligibility for Maryland State certification in Trades and Industry – Electrical.- NCCER Instructor Certification in Electrical or willingness to obtain.
- Master Electrician License preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Minimum of 3 years of recent successful occupational experience as an electrician within the past 10 years.
- Additional certification requirements as set by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and/or the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a lab/classroom setting.- Ability to bend, stoop, lift, and move materials and equipment required in electrical instruction.
- Capability to operate tools and equipment relevant to the electrical trade and instructional setting.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful completion of a background check.- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to travel for field trips, site visits, and professional development as needed.
- Participation in professional development as required by the Principal or Office of Career and Technical Education.
- Convene a Program Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting with stakeholders twice per year, outside of regular school hours.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and technical content in the electrical field.- Strong skills in preparing and delivering engaging, hands-on lessons and managing diverse classrooms.
- Ability to instruct in electrical code, blueprint reading, safety protocols, and applied electrical math.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with students, parents, administrators, and industry partners.
- Competency with relevant technologies including word processing, internet research, instructional software, and trade-specific tools.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and deliver lessons aligned with NCCER and Maryland CTE standards in residential and commercial electrical systems.- Guide students through instructional modules in safety, electrical equipment, circuits, controls, blueprint interpretation, and National Electrical Code.
- Prepare students to earn NCCER certification and develop work-based readiness skills.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging instructional shop and classroom environment.
- Provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Collaborate with Career Coaches and local partners to support career exploration through college and employer visits, job shadowing, and field trips.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning to remain current with industry practices and teaching methodologies.
- Provide program-related data to the CTE Supervisor including student participation and outcomes.
- Maintain accurate student records and comply with state and federal data privacy regulations.
