POSITION DESCRIPTION

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Health Paraprofessional provides basic health care and first aid to students. The Health Paraprofessional assists with health screenings, maintaining health records, dispensing medication, and monitoring procedures and practices for compliance with policies and laws related to the health services department.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
Reports directly to the school nurse at their assigned campus

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists and provides health care support as necessary in the following areas:
- Distributes list of students with severe medical conditions as directed by the School Nurses
- Coordinates and assists with annual health screening at each school campus as needed
- Processes medications, forms, and disposal at the end of the school year
- Distributes accident reports to proper departments
- Generates monthly statistical reports
- Inputs all student health room visits and correspondence in Infinite Campus
- Prepares all medications and paperwork for field trips
- Dispenses medication according to ASD20 policy
- Assists parents on proper health paperwork from TCA/ASD20 website
- Assists with immunization update to include reviewing hard copy records and CIIS for students that are missing immunizations, and mailing out appropriate letters
- Assists with preparation and uploading of health care plans of students with health concerns
- Assists with re-screening of students that failed initial health screening
- Assists with restocking and/or ordering health room supplies for each school campus
- Assists with maintaining clean, organized, and stocked health rooms
- Assists health room paraprofessionals between campuses when needed
- Member of the Emergency Crisis Team (aka MERT)
- Provides administrative support for Lead School Nurse or East Campus School Nurse
- Performs other duties as required
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Flexible and able to carry out a variety of clerical tasks
- Performs a variety of duties using various types of office equipment
- Maintains office filing system to include sensitive and confidential information
- Provides back up assistance to other office staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required
EXPERIENCE:
Experience working in an office or educational environment desired
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must currently possess certification or become certified in First Aid, Medication Administration, CPR, AED, and Universal Precautions
- Ability to be delegated by School Nurse to administer medications including emergency injections of Insulin, Glucagon, Epi pen, and Versed, and to assist with procedures including blood sugars, etc.
- Ability to be a First Responder on the Emergency Crisis Team (aka MERT)
- Ability to attend ASD20/TCA medication class to attain and maintain current certification
- General knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and procedures related to The Classical Academy’s operations and functions
- Ability to participate in staff development activities
- Considerable knowledge of computer equipment and related software
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to maintain an accurate filing system
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, administrators, students, parents, school district, and the public

- Work is generally performed within a standard office/health room environment
- May need to perform first aid at any location on campus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Frequently use eye, hand, and finger coordination to enable the use of a computer, other office equipment, and writing utensils
- Spend majority of work hours sitting and occasionally stand, walk, or drive while performing job duties.
- Frequently be involved in verbal and auditory interaction both interpersonally and through communication devices
- Lift/carry burdens weighing up to 35 lbs. and push/pull burdens weighing up to 100 lbs.
