Holland Public Schools, located in Holland Michigan. The district has four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school and has an enrollment of approximately 3000 students.  We offer a dual language immersion program in Spanish in grades K-8.  Holland Public Schools has a diverse student population with approximately 47% Latinx, 9% Black, 6% Mulitracial, 3 % Asian and 35% White and approximately 64% free and reduced lunch.

Student Success Teacher

SALARY LEVEL:  In accordance with the Board of Education/HEA Contract

Effective Date:        August 2025
 

PRIMARY JOB GOAL:   This course is designed to help students develop the skills, habits, and mindset needed to thrive in middle school and beyond. Through engaging lessons and activities, students will explore topics such as goal setting, time management, organization, study strategies, communication, self-awareness, and perseverance. Emphasis is placed on personal responsibility, growth mindset, and developing positive relationships. The class also provides students with tools to navigate academic challenges and build confidence in their abilities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  

  1. Teach Study Skills: Instruct students on organization, note-taking, test preparation, and time management.

  2. Goal Setting & Reflection: Guide students in setting academic and personal goals, tracking progress, and reflecting on growth.

  3. Support Academic Strategies: Provide direct instruction in executive functioning, reading comprehension, and learning techniques.

  4. Teach Morphology & Word Roots: Instruct students in understanding word parts (prefixes, roots, suffixes) to enhance vocabulary and reading comprehension.

  5. Build Academic Language: Help students recognize and apply root words to decode unfamiliar terms across content areas.

  6. Support Literacy Across Subjects: Connect vocabulary instruction to science, social studies, and other academic content to build cross-curricular skills.

  7.  Promote Digital Awareness: Teach students how to navigate digital spaces safely, responsibly, and effectively.

  8. Model Responsible Tech Use: Guide students in understanding appropriate online behavior, digital etiquette, and screen-time balance.

  9. Teach Digital Citizenship: Cover topics such as cyberbullying, digital footprints, media literacy, and online privacy.

  10. Support Research & Tech Skills: Help students develop basic skills in online research, evaluating sources, and using educational technology tools.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Bachelor’s Degree required.

  2. Must be qualified according to Michigan Dept. of Education criteria for Middle School Teaching (grades 6-8) 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Demonstrates the physical and psychological capacity for the demands of the teaching assignment/coaching assignment.
