Qualifications:
Education/Certification:High School diploma/GED equivalent
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of overall operation of color guard program and University Interscholastic League (UIL) policy and rules governing color guard competition
Ability to choreograph, demonstrate, and teach movement
Ability to work with students
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
1 year dance, drill team, or color guard instructor experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Choreograph, arrange, and implement color guard routines as an integrated part of the marching band and as an independent unit.
- Instruct high school color guard performers in marching band, competitions, and in solo and ensemble events.
Student Achievement and Discipline
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Supervise students during practices, performances, competitions, and associated travel.
- Keep band director informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Management and Organization
- Maintain neat and orderly facilities and rehearsal areas.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
Other
- Comply with policies and regulations established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
