Description

Job Title:  Color Guard Tech                                                                  Exemption Status/Test: Non-exempt    
Reports to:  Band Director                                                                     Pay Grade: Part-time/Hourly

Primary Purpose:

In coordination with the band director, assist with the high school color guard program. Provide instruction to high school students enrolled in the color guard program.  

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
High School diploma/GED equivalent
 
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of overall operation of color guard program and University Interscholastic League (UIL) policy and rules governing color guard competition
Ability to choreograph, demonstrate, and teach movement
Ability to work with students
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
 
 
Experience:
1 year dance, drill team, or color guard instructor experience
 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Choreograph, arrange, and implement color guard routines as an integrated part of the marching band and as an independent unit.
  2. Instruct high school color guard performers in marching band, competitions, and in solo and ensemble events.

Student Achievement and Discipline

  1. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  2. Supervise students during practices, performances, competitions, and associated travel.
  3. Keep band director informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  4. Enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Management and Organization

  1. Maintain neat and orderly facilities and rehearsal areas.
  2. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.

Other

  1. Comply with policies and regulations established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  2. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Tools/Equipment Used: Copier, personal computer, and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking/marching
Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)
Environment: Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to noise. Occasional statewide and overnight travel
