Assistant Athletic Trainer with Full-time Teaching Position

Position:              Assistant Athletic Trainer
 
General Job Description:             
This faculty position supports the health and performance of student-athletes by providing comprehensive athletic training services and ensuring the safe participation of athletes in sports programs.
 
Qualifications: 

• Current certification through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATA-BOC)
• Current licensure through the New Mexico Board of Athletic Trainers Practice
• Current CPR and Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC) certification
• Bachelor/s degree preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the rules and regulations for the activity(s) assigned and for the New Mexico Association.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide athletic training coverage for high school programs, including practices, home games, and postseason competitions as directed by the Athletic Director.
• Establish and manage a comprehensive athletic training program in accordance with state licensure laws and NATA Code of Ethics.
• Administer first aid, injury assessments, treatments, rehabilitations, and reconditioning programs for student-athletes.
• Assist in coordination of required pre-season physicals and maintain proper injury clearance documentation.
• Communicate with physicians, parents, and coaches regarding treatment, recovery, and injury prevention.
• Oversee the athletic training room, including equipment management, cleanliness, and organization.
• Maintain detailed injury and treatment documentation, including daily treatment logs and incident reports.
• Assist in designing and implementing sport-specific conditioning and injury prevention programs.
• Fit and manage protective equipment and taping/bracing as needed.
• Monitor environmental risks and create safe participation conditions.
• Assist in ordering and inventory athletic training supplies and submit annual budget requests to the Athletic Director.
• Serve as a health resource to coaching staff and provide relevant updates in sports medicine practices.
• Collaborate with Head AT and Coaches to develop, implement and rehearse emergency action plans (EAPs) for all sports venues.
• Assist in supervision of Athletic Training Student Aides.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Perform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, principal, and /or Superintendent making necessary modifications. 

Physical Requirements: 
Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes to participate in their particular sport(s) is preferred. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs.
 
Safety & Health:

• Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
• Knowledge and training in first aid procedures required for handling athletic related injuries.

Equipment/Material Handled: 
Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, all multi-media equipment including current technology. Must know how to operate whirlpools, weight machines, and sports aid equipment.
 
Work Environment:
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Work surfaces will vary from concrete to grass to hard wood floors. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hours work may be required. May make site or home visits when needed and appropriate. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
 
SALARY:    Athletic Increment Salary Schedule and Certifed Salary Schedule if full-time position is required.
