SUMMARY:
The School Nurse, under the supervision of the Building Principal/Designee provides student health care services, basic nursing care, and performs clerical duties related to the health center.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintain the school health center.
- Establish and maintain accurate and complete health records including cumulative health records and emergency information on students.
- As appropriate, provide information to all staff regarding acute and chronic student health problems.
- Carry out first aid and emergency care procedures as needed.
- Participate in identification, health evaluations case management and appropriate care for chronically ill or physically disabled students as requested by the ESS Facilitator.
- Administer medications according to applicable laws and school district policies.
- Assist with state mandated screenings.
- Implement district policies and state statues regarding communicable diseases, infectious diseases and animal bites including exclusion and readmission of students and communication with parents, administration and government agencies as required.
- Provide appropriate health counseling and consultation for students, parents and staff.
- Prepare and/or distribute health and safety information to students, staff and parents.
- Conduct classroom seminars on health-related topics as appropriate.
- Conduct and/or participate in staff in-service and parent education programs.
- Assist other school personnel in establishing safe and sanitary conditions in the school.
- Work with parents, health care providers and others for the improvement of health services available to students.
- Assist in conducting research activities to improve the school health program.
- Alert school administrators to community health trends and problems.
- Attend and participate in faculty and staff meetings.
- Participate in the M.I.P.S. program where applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two years of clinical or health care experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Desire to work with children to promote the school health program.
- Experience as school nurse in public high school setting preferred.
License and Certification Requirements:
- Valid Arizona State Board of Nursing License; must be certified as an LPN or RN
- Must possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint clearance card within 90 days of employment.
- Must possess CPR and First Aid Certifications or obtain certifications within six months of employment.
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Possess a valid Arizona State Driver’s License and/or reliable transportation.
- Skill in researching and compiling data for reports, presentations, and technical documents.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Skill in providing general first aid and medical care, and ability to dispense and administer medications in accordance with prescription instructions and District policies.
- Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality.
- Skills and knowledge in computers and various software programs.
- Skill in planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
- Skill in writing professional reports and correspondence from brief instructions.
- Skill in understanding, explaining, and applying relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
- Ability to type and enter data with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a campus health care office and requires exposure to bodily fluids, blood borne pathogens, and contagious illnesses. May be required to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 poundsWHY WORK AT PXU
