Athletic Field Turf Manager / Groundskeeper
Job Definition
Perform skilled duties related to athletic field maintenance including turf and surrounding areas, playgrounds, ornamental beds,
irrigation, pesticide application and related activities for Brenham ISD.
Directly participates in the daily maintenance and preparation of all playing surfaces.
Follow correct procedures to maintain field playing surfaces at the optimum levels.
Experience, knowledge, special skills, and ability to maintain athletic fields at the highest competitive levels as required.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, to maintain school buildings and building and grounds in orderly, neat, safe and operable condition.
Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform athletic field maintenance and grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, seeding, top dressing, pick up trash and other debris.
- Dragging infields, repairing bases, pitching mounds, batter's boxes, transition areas, striping and marking fields.
- Watering fields, setting watering schedules, winterizing, maintaining irrigation systems including repairing leaks and replacing spray heads.
- Pesticide management, proper pesticide record keeping, maintain proper pesticide license per TDA, perform pesticide and herbicide applications.
- Knowledge of proper tools and equipment for assigned projects, proper operation of zero turn mowers, reel mowers, tractors, top dresser, spray and broadcast equipment, various hand tools, perform regular maintenance on equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and general maintenance of equipment, buildings and grounds.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Safety Requirements
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used.
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of pesticides and chemicals.
- Wears appropriate safety gear.
Travel Requirements
Frequent travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required.
Qualifications
- Understanding of the equipment, methods and materials used in athletic field maintenance.
- Understanding of the proper procedures of pesticide application and record keeping.
- Must be able to acquire the proper TDA pesticide license within 6 months.
- Understanding of the operation and maintenance of equipment used for athletic field maintenance.
- Understanding of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for each task performed.
- Three years experience in related field and/or degree in turf management or horticulture.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid drivers license.
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with others.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed.
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve and resolve plumbing and minor electrical issues.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Physical and strenuous work at times
- Working in adverse or extreme weather such as heat, cold, rain, snow.
- Working with various chemicals
- Working with various hand tools and powered tools and equipment.
- Working off of ladders and powered man lifts.
