POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Bookkeeper

LOCATION:  Monroe High School

JOB SUMMARY:
The Dougherty County School System is seeking a Bookkeeper to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective professionals. The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and managing the daily financial operations of the school. This position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with district policies and state regulations, managing budgets and expenditures, and supporting the school’s overall fiscal health.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Technical diploma required. Some college coursework in accounting or finance preferred;
  2. 2+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or finance experience (school or public sector preferred);
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate;
  4. Knowledge of basic accounting principles;
  5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  
  1. Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets), and standard office technology;
  2. Experience working in an educational or public sector environment;
  3. Understanding of budgetary compliance and public finance regulations.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Maintains accurate records of school funds, including student activity accounts, fundraising revenue, and school budgets;
  2. Processes invoices, purchase orders, and payments in compliance with school district policies;
  3. Monitors and reconciles school accounts, bank statements, and ledgers;
  4. Submits monthly school activity account reports to the district Finance department.
  5. Assists with budget preparation and tracking expenditures against approved budgets;
  6. Ensures proper documentation and records are kept for audits and financial review;
  7. Provides bookkeeping support for special events, clubs, and extracurricular activities;
  8. Serves as a point of contact for staff, vendors, and district personnel regarding financial matters;
  9. Responds to inquiries and resolve discrepancies in a professional and timely manner;
  10. Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the Supervisor.
 WORK/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time while working on a computer;
  2. Occasional lifting of office supplies, records, or boxes (up to 25 pounds);
  3. Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, phones, and calculators;
  4. May require occasional walking between departments or school buildings;
  5. Occasionally, the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours and meet multiple demands from several people;
  6. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY RANGE:  Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
