POSITION: High School Social Studies Content Coordinator
LOCATION: Central Office
JOB SUMMARY:
The Dougherty County School System is seeking a forward-thinking High School Social Studies Content Coordinator to join our team of innovative and dedicated educators. The Content Coordinator will lead the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the high school social studies curriculum, ensuring alignment with Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and fostering instructional innovation that prepares students for college, careers, and civic engagement. This position will collaborate with school and district leaders to integrate instructional technology, data-informed decision-making, and evidenced-based practices into high-quality social studies instruction. The ideal candidate is a dynamic educator who is passionate about leveraging digital tools, fostering critical thinking skills, and supporting educators to create engaging and equitable learning experiences for all students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Secondary Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field; Master’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field;
- Advanced degree; credentials in instructional coaching, curriculum design, or educational leadership preferred;
- Valid Georgia teaching certification; educational leadership certification (or eligibility for certification) preferred;
- Five (5) years of successful teaching experience in high school social studies;
- Three (3) years of experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, or instructional support roles;
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Deep expertise in the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for high school social studies and proficiency in curriculum alignment and instructional design;
- Strong knowledge of best practices in social studies instruction;
- Demonstrated ability to integrate instructional technology (LMS platforms, digital assessment tools, interactive media, AI-powered learning tools) into curriculum and instruction;
- Proficiency in data analysis to inform curriculum decisions, improve student achievement, and provide targeted professional learning;
- Strong leadership, coaching, and mentorship skills with the ability to build capacity among teachers and school-based instructional support staff;
- Effective collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with teachers, school administrators, instructional coaches, and district instructional support staff to enhance social studies instruction;
- Experience designing and delivering impactful professional development in instructional strategies, technology integration, and student engagement;
- Ability to foster innovation in social studies instruction through interdisciplinary collaboration, experiential learning, and digital content creation;
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills;
- Commitment to equitable curriculum development and instructional support.
Curriculum Development & Instructional Leadership
- Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the high school social studies curriculum aligned with GSE;
- Design and update curriculum maps, pacing guides, digital resources, and instructional materials to ensure rigorous and engaging learning experiences;
- Embed innovative instructional practices, including inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, and competency-based assessment in social studies instruction;
- Collaborate with educators to incorporate literacy, research, and writing strategies into social studies content;
- Lead the selection and implementation of instructional resources, including digital textbooks, interactive simulations, and online learning tools;
- Ensure social studies instruction integrates real-world applications, including civic engagement, global awareness, and interdisciplinary connections.
Professional Learning & Teacher Support
- Develop and facilitate high-quality professional learning that supports teachers in leveraging technology, data, and best instructional practices;
- Provide job-embedded coaching and model effective teaching strategies for high school social studies educators;
- Support teachers in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including gifted, ESOL, and special education students;
- Guide teachers in analyzing student performance data to inform instructional decisions and intervention strategies;
- Mentor and support new teachers through orientation, coaching, and professional development on best practices in social studies instruction.
Assessment & Data-Informed Decision-Making
- Assist in the development, administration, and analysis of common assessments to measure student mastery and instructional effectiveness;
- Support schools in using assessment data to inform personalized instruction, intervention, and enrichment strategies;
- Collaborate with district and school leaders to monitor achievement trends and make recommendations for curriculum improvements based on data insights.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with principals, instructional coaches, and district instructional support leaders to support high-quality social studies instruction in all high schools;
- Partner with principals, instructional coaches, and district instructional support leaders to support high-quality social studies professional learning in all high schools;
- Serve as a liaison between the district, schools, and the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) regarding social studies initiatives and state assessments;
- Promote interdisciplinary learning by collaborating with ELA, science, and other content areas to support critical thinking and inquiry skills.
Innovation & Future-Ready Instruction
- Stay abreast of emerging educational trends, instructional technologies, and best practices to continuously enhance social studies instruction;
- Encourage student-centered learning approaches, such as gamification, virtual simulations, and augmented reality, to engage students in historical inquiry and analysis;
- Advocate for digital citizenship and media literacy as essential components of social studies education;
- Develop and manage budgetary requests and recommendations for social studies curriculum resources and professional learning initiatives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasional bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, repetitive fine motor activities, prolonged period of standing, walking and sitting is expected;

REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum and Instruction
SALARY RANGE: 11 Month Contract. Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
