Gem Prep is a K- 12 college preparatory school. At least sixty percent of Gem Prep students will graduate high school with an associate’s degree and the remainder will graduate with at least 18 college credits. During the elementary years, Gem Prep believes in building a strong academic foundation to prepare students for the rigorous learning environment in grades 7-12.
Summary:
The principle function of an employee in this class is to assist special education students requiring significant and regular personal care. The position assists in the implementation of a student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). The position works with students who have more severe physical, emotional, and/or learning disabilities. The work is performed under the supervision of a special education teacher, classroom teacher, and the building Principal. The principle duties of this position are performed in a classroom environment and may include exposure to body fluids and some personal injury risk from student behaviors. Wage is $14.78/hr. ***Please note this posting is for the 25-26 school year***
Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
- Work with an individual student to reinforce instruction or skills outlined by certified staff.
- Assist an individual student with any personal care needs, including but not limited to restroom visits.
- Records and reports changes in the students' physical condition, behavior, or appearance.
- Assist the certified staff in devising strategies for reinforcing learning and skills based on the individual student’s needs, interests, and abilities.
- Introduce online software programs, monitors student progress, and proctors curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the certified staff.
- Communicate student progress to certified teacher.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Minimum Education – High School Graduate, some higher education preferred
- Certified Nurse Assistant license or the ability to obtain Licensure
- Ability to obtain paraprofessional certification (this must be completed prior to tutoring students)
- Aptitude for working with children, parents, and teachers
- Interest in children and the learning process
- Desire to assist students in a learning environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ethical behavior
