School Year: 2025-2026
Location: Glenwood Springs High School
Reports to: Glenwood Springs High School Principal
Classification: Certified Exempt - Full-Time (1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week) 
Contract Period: 185 working days / 1 year position for the 2025-2026 SY

    Position Overview

    • The High School Reading Interventionist is a certified educator committed to delivering targeted, data-driven reading instruction to students who require additional support in developing literacy skills. Given that many of these students are native Spanish speakers working to acquire academic English proficiency, the ideal candidate will have experience supporting English language learners as they enhance their reading skills.

    Position Responsibilities
    • Utilize an intervention that offers structured literacy approach to foundational skills through explicit instructional routines grounded in the science of reading. 
    • Design and implement differentiated lessons tailored to address students' needs in decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension grounded in the science of reading.
    • Support students in developing the academic English necessary for success across all content areas.
    • Create and implement, and manage individualized student reading intervention READ Plans in collaboration with classroom teachers, counselors and instructional leaders, providing ongoing student support and assisting educators with effective planning and implementation of the READ Plan.
    • Assess students using diagnostic tools, benchmark assessments, and progress-monitoring systems to identify learning needs and track growth.
    • Monitor and adjust instruction based on data and student progress toward literacy and language goals.
    • Collaborate with English teachers, English Language Development (ELD) staff, and special education personnel to coordinate instruction and ensure consistent support.
    • Participate in RTI and MTSS team meetings to inform decisions regarding reading interventions.
    • Communicate effectively with families about student progress and strategies to support reading development at home.
    • Contribute to school-wide efforts to enhance literacy outcomes.

    Necessary Credentials

    • Master's from an accredited institution in Reading, Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, or TESOL.
    • MUST have an active Colorado Teaching License in Reading Specialist (K-12) or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment. If additional coursework or a preparation program is required, the applicant must provide proof of enrollment and submission of the required documentation to the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) within 30 days of employment.
    • This position requires the completion of the READ ACT Training within the year of hire.
    • Official transcripts must be provided upon hire. For international transcripts, an evaluation is required through a member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

    Desired Qualifications and Core Competencies

    • Training or experience in supporting students acquiring academic English.
    • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, RTI/MTSS frameworks and literacy screening tools (e.g., Read 180, iReady, Lexia).
    • Spanish proficiency is strongly preferred.
    • Strong understanding of early and adolescent literacy development.
    • Skill in designing instruction that effectively supports students learning to read in English.
    • Ability to analyze data and adjust instruction to meet student needs.
    • Strong collaboration skills and cultural awareness.
    • Commitment to equity and instructional excellence.

    Physical Requirements 

    • May include, standing and walking for extended periods; bend, stoop, and lift materials; reach for supplies on high shelves; use manual dexterity for tasks like writing and using technology; communicate clearly and effectively with students; climb stairs in multi-level buildings.
       

    Salary Range

    • *$54,000 to $82,320 (Based on education and years of relevant teaching experience) *The annual salary listed above is based on a full-time, 8-hour workday (FTE 1) and a full working calendar. For positions with less than a full FTE or reduced hours, such as part-time or late-start positions, the salary will be prorated accordingly. Certified Salary Schedule
