TITLE: Teacher, Theatre and Drama
QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet the certification requirements for Theatre Teacher established by the State of Delaware Department of Education
REPORTS TO: Building Principal (or Assistant)
JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil an appreciation of theatre and drama as part of general culture; to teach techniques of acting and performance expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of theatre/drama/performance; and to develop knowledge and skills in theatre performing arts. The High School Theatre Teacher shall be responsible for the recruitment, formation, and management of all theatrical/drama performances.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches skills in theatre/drama appreciation, acting, and production, in an age appropriate manner. Uses the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
- Plans a balanced theatre program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Uses repertoire of all types of associated literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
- Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior per LFSD Code of Conduct to provide and orderly, productive environment during classroom instruction, practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
- Evaluates each pupil's growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in theatre and dram productions for school and community.
- Selects and requisitions books, equipment, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning challenges.
- Cooperates with the school administration in providing programs for school productions, ceremonies, and civic functions when appropriate.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities related to theatre/drama.
- Ensures that transportation arrangements for students and equipment are made for events as needed.
- Ensures that adequate chaperones are secured for events as needed.
- Ensures that school facilities are locked and alarm is turned on when applicable (weekends and late nights).
- Prepares students for winter and spring productions.
- Other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor that pertain to music education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation and Department of Education guidelines.
