Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Directly support the Transportation Services office in scheduling field trips, processing data and performing various clerical and office duties for district field trip operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Valid Texas “A” or “B” CDL driver’s license with “P” Passenger and “S” School Bus Endorsements required or obtained within 6 months of hire
- Texas State School Bus Driver Certification
- Driving record that is insurable with Plano ISD’s insurance carrier
Experience:
- Two years of secretarial experience (in a public education environment, preferred)
- Previous experience in a transportation environment (preferred)
- 2 years of safe school bus driving experience
- Safely, efficiently, and professionally drive buses for regular routes, shuttles and field trips
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain good relationships with Plano ISD staff (supervisors, fellow employees and visitors)
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of office equipment, and proficiency with general office skills and file maintenance
- Proficiency with computer and software, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and database,including basic math and mapping applications
- Ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, and respond to emergency situations as they arise
- Attention to detail
- Ongoing ability to safely operate the school bus and district vehicles
- Working knowledge of Plano ISD routes, streets, and schools
- Ability to be able to successfully complete and maintain required bus driver safety training
- Ability to pass annual DOT physical and all required DOT drug and alcohol tests
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and maintain records of field trips
- Process paperwork necessary for the servicing of field trips in a timely and accurate manner, including but not limited to: field trip sheets, schedules, bid sheets and driver time sheets
- Maintain and update website for the department
- Process billing to customers
- Prepare payroll for field trip drivers
- Process mileage and payroll reports
- Assign drivers and buses/district vehicles (SUV’s) for field trips within department guidelines
- Contact and schedule charter bus and truck rental companies when required
- Work closely with Athletics staff to schedule coach drivers and trips
- Maintain maps and directions for field trip locations and destinations
- Keep field trip personnel and bus lists updated
- Maintain and file departmental documents
- Adapt and respond to emergency situations as they arise
- Assist with department and yearly district in-services, and other training as needed
- Maintain confidentiality of information
- Communicate verbally and in writing with district staff
- Remain informed of, and comply with, state and district policies, guidelines, regulations and procedures concerning primary job functions
- Follow all rules, regulations and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from supervisor
- Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor
- Driving or assisting a school bus when necessary
- Perform other functions that may be assigned by the administration and/or supervisor
- Computer, printer, scanner, and other office equipment; two-way radio; routing and mapping software; various other district software and systems
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling;
- Prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
- Occasional district-wide travel
- Physical dexterity and strength to safely operate bus, including steering, operating pedals, shifting gears, and opening doors
- Must be able to lift and carry a maximum of 50 pounds
- Must be able to lift hood of bus,properly pre-trip bus under hood, climb up on fender or bumper, be able to bend and look under bus for problems
- Fuel bus, scrape ice/snow off windows and mirrors;
- Vision corrected and maintained at 20/40(depth perception)
- Applicant's hearing is a minimum of 10/15 by whispered voice hearing aid is permissible
- Does not use a controlled substance, amphetamine, narcotic, or any other habit-forming drug,except if prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner who is familiar with the driver's medical history and assigned duties, and who has advised the driver that the prescribed drug or substance will not adversely affect the driver's ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
- Must be able to work in inclement weather, outside and inside in heat or cold;
- Tolerate excessive and/or intermittent noise, fumes, smoke or gases, grease and oils
- Work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects or vehicles; may include out of district travel
Mental Demands:
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to perform basic math skills; ability to maintain emotional control in stressful or emergency situations; work with frequent interruptions
