Part-Time American Sign Language Interpreter -- Girard City Schools

POSITION:

• Part-Time Pupil Services American Sign Language Interpreter

• Must hold a valid certificate/license Education of the Handicapped (K-12) License for the Hearing Handicap.
• Must have or be willing to obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention Training.
• Must be certified/licensed to serve as an American Sign Language Interpreter.
• Must be highly qualified.
• Must demonstrate organizational skills and communication skills.
• Must be an effective communicator and motivator.
• Must possess strong leadership skills.
• Must be willing and able to carry out the duties of the job description.
• Must have a successful BCI & FBI background check.
• Must have negative drug test results. 
• Adhere to ethical guidelines and confidentiality standards.

• Accompany students as their ASL interpreter throughout the school day while the student participates in school activities and classes. 
• Ensure students have access to all classroom instruction and activities.
• Help bridge communication gaps between students, teachers, and peers.
• Promote understanding and inclusion of deaf or hard-of-hearing students in the classroom.
• Provide input on classroom modifications and strategies to support deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
• Assist students with understanding subject matter and completing assignments.
• Support students' independence and self-advocacy.
• Interpret for special events, assemblies, and school activities.
