Mild Intellectual Disabilities Inclusion Special Education Teacher
Position Summary:
The Special Education Teacher will provide instruction, support, and accommodations for students with mild intellectual disabilities in an inclusive classroom setting. This role requires collaboration with general education teachers, administrators, parents, and support staff to create an accessible and engaging learning environment that meets the needs of diverse learners. The teacher must be able to effectively reteach concepts, differentiate instruction, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously to ensure students’ academic and social success.
Instruction & Student Support:
- Provide specialized instruction and interventions aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Adapt and modify general education curriculum to meet the needs of students with mild intellectual disabilities.
- Reteach and reinforce key concepts in multiple ways to ensure mastery of learning objectives.
- Implement differentiated instructional strategies to promote student engagement and academic success.
- Utilize various assistive technologies, instructional materials, and resources to support student learning.
Collaboration & Co-Teaching:
- Co-teach and Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and accommodate diverse learning needs.
- Work with paraprofessionals, therapists, and other service providers to ensure students receive appropriate support
Classroom & Behavior Management:
- Implement positive behavioral interventions and support strategies in alignment with students' IEPs and behavioral plans.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that encourages student participation and independence.
- Monitor student progress and implement strategies to address behavioral or social-emotional needs.
- Effectively multitask in a dynamic classroom environment, managing student needs, instructional delivery, and behavioral interventions simultaneously.
IEP Development, Compliance & Parent Engagement:
- Develop, review, and update IEPs in collaboration with the IEP team, ensuring compliance with state and federal special education laws.
- Assess student progress through data collection, formative assessments, and regular documentation.
- Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and documentation related to student performance and services.
- Regularly communicate with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, goals, and strategies for support.
- Partner with parents to reinforce learning at home and provide resources for continued growth.
- Offer guidance and support to families regarding special education processes, services, and available community resources.
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
- Ability to develop and implement IEPs in compliance with IDEA regulations.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, colleagues, and families.
- Ability to reteach concepts using various instructional methods to meet diverse learning needs.
- Strong multitasking skills to manage multiple students, instructional strategies, and classroom activities at once.
- Knowledge of behavior management strategies and positive reinforcement techniques.
- Proficiency in assistive technology and adaptive learning tools.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment - Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements - Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards - Works in standard office and school building environments.
Qualifications Profile
Certification/License:
- State Certification in appropriate area
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education - Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Experience - Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
