POSITION: Physical Education Teacher

LOCATION:  Albany Middle School

JOB SUMMARY:
The Dougherty County School System is seeking a Physical Education Teacher to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective teaching professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physical education, a genuine enthusiasm for promoting health and wellness, and the ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. The Physical Education Teacher will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive physical education curriculum that addresses the physical, social, and emotional needs of students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, or a related field;
2. Valid Georgia Teacher certification or Charter Waiver Eligible;
3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.

2. Ability to relate to and motivate all students in a positive manner with respect; 
3. Ability to effectively navigate and utilize a wide range of educational and career-related technology tools, software applications, and digital platforms while engaging students;
4. Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance;
2. Be present, organized, and enthusiastically committed to the success of all students;
3. Designs and implement a dynamic and engaging physical education curriculum that aligns with educational standards and promotes overall student well-being;
4. Creates lesson plans that incorporate a variety of physical activities, sports, and fitness exercises to cater to diverse learning styles;
5. Instructs students in proper exercise techniques, sportsmanship, and teamwork;
6. Demonstrates exercises and activities to ensure students understand and execute movements correctly;
7. Fosters a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages all students to participate and enjoy physical education;
8. Provides constructive feedback to students, parents, and colleagues regarding individual and class performance;
9. Collaborates with colleagues, parents, and the wider school community to create a holistic educational experience for students. Participate in art-related events, exhibitions, and community outreach programs;
10. Implements effective methods for assessing student progress and understanding;
11. Provides timely and constructive feedback to students, and communicate progress to parents and school administrators;
12. Instructs designed classes in accordance with formulated plans and outlines, modified as necessary to achieve the learning objectives; all within the policies of the school system;
13. Ensures the safety of students during physical education activities by enforcing proper equipment use, rules, and procedures;
14. Maintains the degree of discipline and order in the classroom necessary to effectively instruct students;
15. Counsels with students and parents on learning and discipline problems as necessary;
16. Supervises or assists in the supervision of school activities as assigned;
17. Performs related duties as assigned as circumstances require;
18. Completes all records and reports on time and with accuracy;
19. Stays informed about current trends, research, and best practices in physical education;
20. Attends professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge;
21. Maintains satisfactory performance on the system Evaluation Instrument;
22. Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the Principal/Supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to lift and carry teaching materials, books, or small classroom equipment (typically up to 25 lbs);
2. Ability to prepare and manipulate learning materials;
3. Ability to stand and actively move around the classroom for extended periods;
4. Ability to move between classrooms, hallways, and other school areas as needed;
5. Ability to respond quickly in case of emergencies, such as evacuating students or assisting during drills;
6. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

REPORTS TO:  Principal

SALARY RANGE:  10 Month Contact. Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
