Major Responsibilities:
- Provide academic instruction and support for students who are enrolled in an outplacement educational program, serving students with social-emotional difficulties and communication and behavior challenges
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage and motivate students
- Utilize restorative practices to help students regulate their behavior, develop perspective-taking, and take personal responsibility for their actions
- Other duties as may be assigned
- Knowledge of Special Education procedures and regulations
- Recent teaching experience in a school setting, preferred
- Desire to work with students who struggle with regulating behavior and social emotional responses
- Familiarity in using CT-SEDS
- Experience in writing IEP goals, completing achievement evaluations and interpreting the results to propose services and instructional needs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate flexibility in response to unpredictability of student academic and behavioral needs
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Active Connecticut Certification in Special Education (Endorsement #: 065, 165 or 265)
- Master’s Degree in Special Education preferred
- Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling and therapeutic holding as required
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this job
