Custodian
Description: Custodian provides support to the district school building environments under the supervision of the Director of Buildings & Grounds
Reporting Structure: Reports to Director of Buildings & Grounds
Qualifications: High School diploma, technical school certificate or comparable work experience. Must be able to:
- Perform assigned duties and tasks with a minimum of direction
- Proactively identify potentially hazardous situations and be able to take appropriate action
- Understand and follow public fire and sanitation codes and safety precautions to avoid occupational hazards
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry and HVAC system
- Use and maintain tools and equipment required to perform duties
- Physically move about the school buildings and grounds
- Lift up to 50 pounds and assist others in lifting objects in excess of 75 pounds
- Speak, write, read and understand English
- Exercise sound judgment in protecting the safety and security of all district staff, students and property
- School bus driver endorsement and CDL preferred, if duties will include bus driving
Responsibilities:
- Ensure a high standard of interior building appearance, maintenance and cleanliness. This may include:
- Checking daily that all exterior doors are closed and latched
- Performing building repairs
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning to provide temperature appropriate to the season
- Painting
- Ensure a high standard of exterior building appearance, including playgrounds, parking lots, sidewalks and other surface areas. This includes:
- Performing grounds maintenance such as grass cutting, tree and bush trimming, mulching, edging, and keeping grounds free of debris
- Shoveling, plowing and salting sidewalks, stairs, driveways, parking areas as appropriate
- Maintain School District machinery, tools and equipment, which may include:
- Univents, rooftop units, chillers
- Changing filters, oiling, greasing motors, cleaning coils, changing belts as needed
- Keep an inventory of supplies, and equipment; work with the supervisor to maintain adequate supplies
- Communicate any major problems or needed repairs to the supervisor immediately
Terms: 260 workdays per year (12-month schedule), pursuant to the IFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
