Description
Position Summary:
Ensure and provide comprehensive educational services to children and their families, while supporting the school environment to assist staff with creating rich learning opportunities that build on daily routines and support each child’s development.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities -
Work with Lead Teacher to:
- Plan and implement learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy and phonemic print, numeracy awareness, their understanding and use of language, their understanding and use of increasingly complex and varied vocabulary, their appreciation of books, and their problem solving skills
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment
- Support the social and emotional development of children
- Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment
- Responsible for the children under his/her care during the time they are in the school, including their education activities, play, cleanliness, eating, safety, toileting, behavior, etc...
- Teach safety habits in handling work and play materials
- Instruct children in practices of personal cleanliness and self care
- Help children develop habits of caring for own clothing and picking up and putting away toys and books
- Assist with serving meals and refreshments to children
- Help children develop good eating habits by sitting at tables during meal time, conversing with children and encouraging good table manners. Share same menu as children
- Oversee the assigned paraprofessional in the classroom and provide their daily routines/schedule
- Complete required screenings according to the district's timeline
- Must be able to develop daily lesson plans using the daily lesson guide
- Ensure quality environment and effective teacher-child interactions for overall academic development
- Plan upcoming weekly lesson plans and develop a list of needed materials
- Enter child information and data into the agency’s child tracking systems
- Meet regularly with the Director to plan and coordinate activities and the teaching curriculum
- Work with school staff in maintaining Accreditation
- Follow all regulations and requirements as stated in Better Beginnings (Arkansas Quality Rating Improvement System)
- Follow DCCECE Minimum Licencing Requirements
- Participate in all required trainings regarding accreditation
- Comply with any changes that result from a Better Beginnings monitor
- Form relationships with parents to foster a more effective learning environment for the child
- Attend parent meetings and participate in activities and/or provide childcare for parents as determined by the Director
- Confer with parents regarding child’s progress and ways in which they may help their child
- Conduct parent/teacher conferences as to district parent/teacher conference schedule
- Attend required district and DCCECE-PDR professional development
- Ensure that bedding is washed weekly or as needed
- Adhere to all policies of the District and the Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the building administrator and other central office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Pre-K principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding the education of students
- Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts
- Ability to maintain student confidentiality
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications
- Ability to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
- Ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written form
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
Certification/License:
- Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Development
- Successful completion of all background checks
