TEACHER OF ENGLISH
PAYNE TECH
The Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking a 10-month Teacher of English at PayneTech for the 2025-26 school year.
Position Purpose
- Under the School Principal's supervision, the English Teacher fosters a deep understanding and appreciation of the English language and literature. They develop students' reading, writing, and critical thinking skills through dynamic and interactive lessons, incorporating diverse literary works and contemporary media to create a stimulating learning environment.
Qualifications:
- Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
- Must be resident of New Jersey or attain residency within one year unless exempted under the law
Performance Responsibilities:
- Instructs students in fundamental English skills, covering areas such as literature, writing, grammar, and effective communication.
- Develops and delivers engaging lessons that incorporate diverse literary works and contemporary media.
- Designs assessments and adjusts teaching methods to accommodate the diverse learning needs of individual students.
- Prepares students for success in academic and real-world contexts through comprehensive instruction.
- Collaborates with colleagues to stay abreast of current educational trends and best practices in English language arts.
- Cultivates a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Maintains accurate records of student performance and progress.
- Integrates technology and current literary practices into the curriculum.
- Guides students in understanding literary concepts and their practical application in various contexts.
- Plans and develops instructional plans, lessons, and support activities aligned with the approved English curriculum.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to fit individual student needs.
- Provides individual and small group instruction as needed, including support for students with special needs.
- Maintains familiarity with district and NJ State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Terms of Employment
This is a full-time day position during 10 months of the year. This position is governed by the collective bargaining agreement by and between the Board of Education and the Essex County Vocational Education Association.

The Essex County Vocational and Technical High Schools are public schools supported by County, State and Federal Funds. There are five such programs operated by the Board of Education for the Vocational Schools in the County of Essex. These include four high schools and one adult center. In addition to salary, the Board of Education offers fringe benefits to all employees. These benefits include maintenance of hospitalization insurance including Medical, Dental and Benecard Prescription Plan. The Board also maintains a $4,000 Group Life Insurance Policy for each employee.
