POSITION: Special Education Paraprofessional (Contracted through EduStaff) – Req 10)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s (or higher) degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher education, or achieve a passing score on the Basic Skills Test of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC), or pass WorkKeys test
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proficient reading and writing abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with children and take direction.
- Physically able to lift 50 pounds.
- Pleasant, cooperative and flexible.
- Willing and able to toilet students and provide other custodial care needs.
- A positive attitude to foster the proper atmosphere for a supportive classroom environment.
- Willing to learn and perform health care needs, after training.
- An understanding of Assistive Technology and the ability to support students with disabilities in the classroom.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works with individual students to reinforce learning of material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual student, their needs, interests and abilities.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
- Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Helps the student master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Guides independent study, enrichment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Serves as the source of information and helps any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Communicates with Special Education teacher essential information to keep her/him abreast ofstudents’ assignments, behavior, and information shared by the General Education teacher.
- Supports students in all aspects of their day, in General Education classes, Special Education classes, hallways, lunchroom, etc.
- Able to record requested data from teachers, Social Workers or administrators.
- Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
- Aid the student needing assistance in self-care, including toileting, and other health care duties as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support Services and School Principal
WORKDAY/WEEK: Monday-Friday, per building schedule
STARTING DATE: ASAP
COMPENSATION: $15.00 per hour (contracted through EduStaff)
