Description
There is a Cafeteria Worker position available in the Palmerton Area School District. Compensation will be in accordance with the negotiated contract.
Position Summary:
To perform the routine duties involved in the preparation and serving of food and in the cleaning of kitchen equipment and facilities.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Knowledge of food preparation
- Working knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures
- Ability to follow food sanitation procedures.
- Ability to learn prescribed food preparation methods and school cafeteria operations.
- Ability to retrieve necessary menu items and recipe ingredients.
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
- Ability to work independently and multi-task.
- Ability to follow a set schedule.
- Ability to be flexible while demonstrating patience and professional demeanor.
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, visitors, and administrators.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relations with building staff.
- Ability to collaborate with other employees in the performance of tasks.
- Possess or willingness to learn basic computer skills and utilize such skills.
Physical:
- Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort.
- Operation of commercial food service equipment
- Movement of objects weighing 40-60 pounds
- Continuous standing
- Must be able to stoop and bend.
Functions/Duties/Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function/duty/responsibility at acceptable standards. In accordance with both state and/or federal law, reasonable accommodations will be considered upon employee request.
Essential:
- Prepares food according to standard recipes and established food preparation procedures.
- Plan food production for the following days by preparing the designated food items ahead of time.
- Store food in designated areas utilizing knowledge if temperature requirements and food spoilage guidelines.
- Store food in refrigerator after covering, labeling, and dating properly discards outdated food items.
- Courteously serves food with accuracy and speed while adhering to portion control, safety, and appearance standards.
- Follows established sanitary techniques while preparing, serving food, and handling clean utensils.
- Performs job activities in a timely, efficient manner, and displays a willingness to work beyond end of contract work time as the infrequent need arises.
- Observes and promotes safe work practices and environment.
- Maintains kitchen work area, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition including, but not limited to; sweeping and mopping floors; washing tables, walls, and equipment as directed and washing pots and pans according to the established procedures.
Secondary:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Supervisor
Terms of Employment:
- 10-month position
- In conjunction with PAESPA Agreement
