Function / Position Summary
 
To build strong relationships and provide a high quality, culturally relevant experience during the summer for students who will be attending kindergarten during the upcoming school year. The teacher is responsible for creating a safe and exciting learning environment in which each student is actively engaged in meaningful activities to support a welcoming transition into kindergarten. The teacher uses knowledge of early childhood development and knowledge of the content areas to support educating a diverse student population. In addition, the teacher models hands-on learning activities to support a positive start to the life-long educational process through collaboration with students, parents, peers, and their educational community
 
Job Duties / Responsibilities

• Follows a program of study that follows district kindergarten camp guidelines, and meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Implements researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students, acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
• Creates an environment conducive to learning and motivates students, acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
• Implements a play based environment and includes content that is grade level appropriate.
• Plans for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of program goals, and establishes clear objectives/targets for all lessons, units and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
• Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration.
• Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivates students to work to their highest potential.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
• Assists administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in area(s) assigned and/or supervised in a fair and just manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the principal, or other administrative staff.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in related subject from accredited university (Required).
• Appropriate Illinois teaching certificate (Required).
• Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.

Experience / Knowledge

• Knowledge of the Illinois Learning Standards (CCSS 2014).
• Must exhibit willingness and capacity to use developmentally appropriate practices.
• Teaching experience is preferred, but not necessary for hiring.
  • Experience in at least one of the grade levels of a multi-grade (Preferred).
  • Similar experience in the sought position (Preferred).

Physical Demands

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials up to 30 lbs. with proper technique.

Terms of Employment

• This is a temporary position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. U-46 reserves the right to terminate the position by the third day of student attendance if a minimum number of students do not register or enroll.

Professional development date: July 23 - 7:45am - 12:15pm       

Student Programming Dates: July 24 & July 25 - 8:00am - 12:00pm

Staff work hours: 7:45am - 12:15pm             

*Additional hours may also be required to provide a student/parent orientation component during an afternoon or evening on one of the following days: July 24 - July 25, 2025
