General Function:
Specifically, the Educational Paraprofessional works alongside and assists certified school personnel in the performance of their duties. The paraprofessional works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce material introduced by the teacher. The paraprofessional collects, prepares, and arranges resource materials. The paraprofessional maintains classroom records, prepares reports, and manages supplies and classroom equipment as needed. The candidate must be able to work with all staff.

Education/Training/Experience:
Minimum: Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must possess or obtain a Level III Educational Assistant Paraprofessional license through the Public Education Department. A license is obtained by either meeting specific college-level coursework OR passing the Educational Assistant Paraprofessional exam administered by SFPS. Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
The candidate must be able to work with all staff and follow the curriculum and requirements as mandated by the grant proposal. Basic computer skills (MS Office/web-based applications) are required, along with knowledge of technology tools to be used in an online environment, if necessary. The candidate must be willing to participate in training and professional development. Candidates must have good interpersonal skills with students and be willing to work closely with families.
 
Essential Job Functions:
Performs all functions by established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, and facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change occasionally to meet the organization's needs. Current essential functions include the following:
  1. The candidate must be able to follow the curriculum and requirements as mandated by the grant proposal.
  2. Basic computer skills (MS Office/web-based applications) are required, along with knowledge of technology tools for use in an online environment, if necessary.
  3. Candidate must be willing to participate in training and professional development.

Hourly Rate:
$15.00 per hour
 
Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to): 
Standard office equipment and software platforms such as Microsoft Office and the Google Suite.
 
Physical/Cognitive Requirements: 
Regularly required to stand; move throughout a classroom and/or facility. Communicate verbally and electronically. Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.  Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance, and drive. May have occasion to perform light lifting, but not more than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and private automobile. Some evening or weekend work and travel may be required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
 
Environmental Conditions: 
Work is performed in an office setting, where employees are exposed to a visual/video display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.

  3. Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
  4. Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
  5. Demonstrates skill in using equipment, including its capabilities, limitations, and appropriate/ special applications.
  6. Protects the District’s resources by appropriately and carefully using supplies and equipment.
  7. Uses appropriate body mechanics to prevent muscle strain/injury.
