Job Description:
Green Brook Middle School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to join our team in supporting students with emotional regulation impairments (behavior disabilities) in a middle school setting. The Paraprofessional will work closely with the classroom teacher and special education team to provide individualized support for students with emotional challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the teacher in managing a behavior the classroom, implementing behavior management strategies, and promoting positive behaviors.
Provide direct support to students with behavior disabilities, including individual and group interventions.
Monitor and document students’ behavior, progress, and challenges as part of the team’s collaborative approach.
Help implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and behavioral plans, as directed by the teacher and special education team.
Assist students with academic tasks, social skills development, and emotional regulation.
Foster a safe and respectful classroom environment by promoting positive relationships and conflict resolution skills.
Qualifications:
At least 30 college credits required. Substitute teacher certificate preferred.
Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special education needs. Experience in a self-contained setting preferred.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and administrators.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to handle challenging situations with calm and professionalism.
Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies preferred.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to school policies and procedures.
Capable of managing physical demands associated with behavior support, including de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention as required. Training provided by the district.
