Position Summary:  Alaska Gateway School District is seeking a Interim special education teacher for the 2025/2026 school year, who is highly creative, able to think out of the box, and who wishes to become part of a progressive school district with a sense of educational mission, purpose, and possessing a commitment to helping students succeed.  This position is based at Tok School.  If you desire to be part of an effective team of educators, where you are encouraged to grow and are supported professionally and personally, in a school district that is focuses on developing the kind of relationships that support students and our staff, and that is making a profound difference for kids, then you may be the kind of teacher we are seeking to fill this position.  AGSD offers a competitive salary ranging from $58,293 to $96,343. 
 
Duties specific to this particular position include but are not limited to:

  1. One year position
  2. Work with students one on one and in small groups to implement their IEP goals
  3. Facilitate work with the IEP team to design and implement effective Individual Education Plans
  4. Assists teachers to design and implement appropriate strategies in the classroom for each student
  5. Develops effective working relationships with parents that encourage student achievement
  6. Supervise assigned classified staff in coordination with the site administrators and Special Education Director to provide maximum support and to reduce barriers to student success.  
  7. Monitor student progress for the purpose of determining appropriate interventions when needed.
  8. Sets-up and maintains the schedule for meeting with students and teachers to ensure adherence and updating of IEP determined schedules, monitor student work, and ensure tutoring as needed.
  9. Maintain accurate and timely paperwork as required by local, state and federal guidelines.
  10. Maintains open and on-going communication and involvement with the students' families and community.
  11. Provides coordinated linkages between the student’s social, emotional and academic needs
  12. Possess a customer service orientation, maintain and model a professional manner and decorum.
  13. Keep abreast of current and emerging educational research and trends
  14. Responds to referral of students to the program.
  15. New teachers actively participate in the district’s orientation program
