PRIMARY PURPOSE:

• To assist the teacher with the bilingual student’s needs, as well as to help the student to learn English and understand classroom assignments.                           

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Texas Educational Aide Certificate

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• Possess the ability to speak and write English and the required language fluently.                     

EXPERIENCE:

• None

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Assist the teacher in translating from students’ native language to English.
• Work with students in academic classes.
• Assist teacher in non- instructional functions.
• Tutor one-on-one and small group.
• Assist students with classroom assignments.
• Assist teacher to understand bilingual student’s needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• None

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands:

• Reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Writing simple correspondence and effectively presenting information in English and their home language.
• Maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical demands/environmental factors:

• Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 20 lbs.
• Standing, bending, walking, talking, and hearing.
• Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
