POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified PPSTA Teacher
Certified in the area applying to teach for the afterschool program
Experience with College and Career School Counseling (Preferred)
DUTIES:
The Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD) is committed to providing students and parents with pathways to opportunity that will lead to achievement and success. The Smart Scholars - ECHS Afterschool Program offers students extra academic support in ELA (reading/writing) to develop the skills and knowledge to prepare students for college-level work in 10th grade and thereafter. The teacher will work on specific reading and writing skills and strategies and assess student progress weekly. In order to retain the position for the following school year, student academic progress must be shown, or candidates will be evaluated out.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Design career exploration lessons and provide career exploration activities utilizing various instruction instructional delivery methods and strategies such as project-based, technology-assisted instruction, individualized and small group activities;
- Scaffold lessons with appropriate grade level supports; differentiate lesson delivery, tasks, and assessments to ensure students have access to lessons;
- Maintain student progress and attendance records on Infinite Campus;
- Establish a well-organized, attractive, and relaxed classroom atmosphere;
- Use a base level assessment and pre and post assessment methods to gauge all students' level of understanding of career exploration and lessons;
- Complete beginning of program reading and writing baseline assessments for all students and monitor academic progress;
- Assist in managing students during all transitions, including dismissal;
- Communicate student progress with parents at the end of every three weeks in writing;
- Communicate in writing with administration bi-weekly by providing progress updates and attendance totals for each class/scholar in a spreadsheet;
- Address ELL needs based on language proficiency and SWE as per IEP;
- Maintain progress monitoring records for each student which will include specific/individualized learning goals and progress towards such goals.
- Collaborate with Afterschool ELA SS-ECHS teacher and Community Based Organizations as needed and as appropriate to align the work.
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.
EFFECTIVE DATES:
Program dates: January 14, 2025 - May 29, 2025
Prep & Planning time date: January 10, 2025 - for 1.5 hours after school
*Not to exceed 24 hours maximum
CONDITIONS:
The Smart Scholars - ECHS Afterschool Program serves students in the Smart Scholars - ECHS Cohort runs weekly, Tuesday - Thursday, 3pm-4:30pm The school counselor will work one day a week for a max of 24 hours.SALARY:
In accordance with PPSTA contract
