SUMMARY: School counselors provide services to students in each grade level to promote and enhance the learning process for students through an integration of academic, personal/social, and post-secondary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Designs/implements prevention and intervention strategies to assist students, staff, and administrators in increasing academic, behavioral, and social/emotional achievement at school. Provides direct mental health services to students through individual or group counseling. Utilizes a variety of techniques to facilitate more effective functioning within the educational environment. Obtains and uses information about individual students to increase achievement. Shares knowledge and evidence-based interventions with staff, administrators, and parents. Functions as a member of a school staffing team. Serves as a link between the school, parents, and community; fosters a professional relationship and encourages participation of all in the learning experience of students. Maintains appropriate communication with other educational institutions, outside agencies, and the community. Develop and/or participate in professional enrichment activities to maintain a high standard of service delivery. Model for and instill The Academy’s six Core Values into students whenever possible. Performs other duties as assigned.
